Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy describes how we handle your personal information for our Services on our Site. It applies generally to the www.spacehive.com ("Site"). In addition to the privacy practices set out in this Privacy Policy, Spacehive have Terms of Use which incorporate the terms of this Privacy Policy.

Some words used in this Privacy Policy are defined the Terms of Use.

  1. The information we collect from you when visiting our Site

    1.1 When someone visits our Site we collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the Spacehive website. This information is only collected in aggregate (in other words, we are not able to monitor your individual usage of the site) and helps us monitor site traffic patterns in order to improve our service.
    1.2 This site uses cookies for some interactive features. A cookie is a text file, which includes an anonymous unique identifier, that is sent to your browser from a web site's computers and stored on your computer's hard drive. The information generated by the cookie about your use of our website (including your IP address) is processed by us and may then be used to evaluate visitors' use of the website and to compile statistical reports on website activity for Spacehive. Cookies do not contain any personal information about you, and they cannot be used to identify an individual user. Most browsers will automatically accept cookies. You can set your browser to reject cookies but some parts of the web site may not function properly if the cookies are rejected.
    1.3 If we do want to collect personally identifiable information through our website, we will be upfront about this. We will make it clear when we collect personal information and will explain what we intend to do with it.
  2. The information we collect from you as a registered user with a Project listing

    2.1 By agreeing to Spacehive's Terms of Use, Spacehive Project Promoters agree to not abuse other users' personal information. Abuse is defined as using personal information for any purpose other than those explicitly specified in the Project Promoter's Project, or is not related to fulfilling delivery of a product or service explicitly specified in the Project Promoter's Project.
    2.2 When you create a secure personal account on Spacehive for the purpose of listing a Project posting, we collect your name, email address, postal address, your phone number (where you agree to provide it) and your password. We will not pass on this information to any third party unless you give us your express consent.
    2.3 Neither Spacehive, Project Promoters nor Project Delivery Managers receive Funders' credit card information or bank account details.
  3. The information we collect from you when you pledge funds

    3.1 When you pledge funds to a Project, we collect your name and your email address. Other details such as your credit or debit card details (including card type, card number and expiry date) or bank account details and your billing address are collected by our payment partners: PayPal or GoCardless.
    3.2 Spacehive need your email address so we can confirm your pledge or let you know if there's been a problem. However, we never share your email address with any other party apart from the Payment Platform unless you explicitly say so.
    3.3 PayPal and GoCardless will only use your payment details for the purpose of processing your pledge. To find out more about the security of your payments, please read PayPal or GoCardless's (as applicable) security policies.
  4. Email alerts and news letters

    4.1 We will only communicate with you only if you want to hear from us.
    4.2 We will send you emails relating to your transactions.
    4.3 You will also receive certain email notifications and news letters, for which you will always be offering the ability to unsubscribe. If you are registered with Spacehive, you may change your contact preferences at any time by visiting My Account.
    4.4 We may send you service-related announcements when it is necessary to do so.
    4.5 Project Promoters receive the email addresses of their Funders if, and only if, the Project is successfully funded or if you have opted in to expressing an interest in getting involved in or receiving further information on a Project you have pledged funds to. Project Delivery Managers will receive the email addresses of donors to their Project if the Funder opts to pledge funds through GoCardless.
  5. Legal obligations

    5.1 We will not generally disclose personal data without consent, however there are circumstances where we may pass on personal data without your consent, for example, to prevent and detect crime, to comply with any legal obligation or to produce anonymised statistics.
    5.2 Spacehive is registered with the Information Commissioners Office ("ICO") as a data controller under the Data Protection Act 1998, with Registration Number: Z2921122.
    5.3 Individuals can find out if we hold any personal information by making a 'subject access request' under the Data Protection Act 1998. If we do hold information about you, we will:
    1. give you a description of it;
    2. tell you why we are holding it;
    3. tell you who it could be disclosed to; and
    4. Let you have a copy of the information in an intelligible form.
    5.4 To make a request to Spacehive for any personal information we may hold you need to put the request in writing addressing it to our Data Protection Officer at the address provided below. If you agree, we will try to deal with your request informally, for example by providing you with the specific information you need over email or telephone. If we do hold information about you, you can ask us to correct any mistakes by, once again, contacting info@spacehive.com.
  6. Security

    6.1 Your data is stored on servers in the United Sates that are Safe Harbor compliant: export.gov/safeharbor/. We treat security very seriously and try to protect your personal information against unauthorised access and disclosure. Unfortunately, third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications, and other users may abuse or misuse your personal information that they collect from the Site. Therefore, although we work very hard to protect your privacy, we do not promise that your personal information or private communications will always remain private.
  7. Acceptance of Spacehive's Privacy Policy

    7.1 Use of the our site and associated services implies acceptance of this Privacy Policy. If you are not satisfied with any aspect of it please do not continue to use our site and services. This policy may change from time to time and you are deemed to have accepted the current version each time you use Spacehive or any site powered by us.
  8. Changes

    8.1 Spacehive reserves the right to update this Privacy Policy at anytime. Updates to our Privacy Policy will be sent to the email address that you have provided us or posted prominently on the website
