Spitalfields Outdoor Kitchen

We’re creating Britain’s first designer outdoor kitchen at Spitalfields City Farm. Tasty!

This exciting new facility is being designed by one of the capital’s coolest architectural practices, Aberrant Architecture (images coming soon!). The aim is to create a vibrant social hub at the heart of the farm - a space where anyone can come along and cook.

Just off bustling Brick Lane, this inner city farm attracts a diverse crowd. Mixing Bengali food culture with fresh fruit and veg grown on site, the kitchen will be the prime spot to share recipes and inspire new cooking practices.

It will be the perfect addition to a community farm buzzing with food-related events. Supper clubs and camping-style cookups over an open fire are already popular. With an outdoor kitchen we'll be able to create some really delicious treats.

With an exciting range of activities at the farm - from the mad Oxford v. Cambridge Goat Race to the “eco-chic” outdoor market- the outdoor kitchen will be just one more reason why you’ll have to visit! Everyone’s welcome, so bring your friends for a cookup!

• Construct an outdoor kitchen at Spitalfields City Farm, to be designed by Aberrant Architecture.

Why it's a great idea:

Outdoor kitchens have been big in America for years. They're a simple, affordable and fun addition to public spaces that provide a place for people to meet and socialise. Now, under an initiative by Spacehive, they are coming to the UK. With your support Spitalfields will be one of the first to places to host one!

Not only will this kitchen host a whole variety of events, but it will be an original new design icon too. Keep checking back - Aberrant Architecture's designs will be uploaded soon.

But what about the great British weather? Well the truth is that in London it only rains 4% of the time – less than Rome! Plenty of time to enjoy outdoor eating from spring to Autumn.

How we'll get it done:

• Install the outdoor kitchen (details to be confirmed).

This kitchen, along with another pilot site at Newham City Farm, is intended as the first of many. The aim is that communities elsewhere will be able to choose their favourite design and fund their own outdoor kitchen. Some of Britain’s best young architectural practices are keen to design them. So look out for spaces near you to host this cooking revolution!
